SKOPJE
It is the
country’s political, cultural, economic and academic centre. In the Roman
period it was known under the name Scupi . One of the main attractions is the
stone bridge across the Vardar River.
OHRID
(UNESCO)
It is
situated on the shores of Lake Ohrid; the town of Ohrid is one of the oldest
human settlements in Europe. Built mainly between the 7th and the 19th
century, it has the oldest Slav monastery ( st Pantelejmon) and more than 800
Byzantine –style icons dating from the 11th to the end of the 14th
century. After the one of the Tretiakov Gallery in Moscow, this is the most
important collection of icons in the world.
ARCHAEOLOGICAL
SITE STOBI
It built
where the Erigon River ( Mod. Crna) joins the Axios River ( mod, Vardar) , the
city was strategically important as the centre for both trade and warfare and
it became the capital of the Roman province
of Macedonia Salutaris.
THE
MEMORIAL HOUSE OF MOTHER TERESA
It is
dedicated to the humanitarian and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Mother Teresa and
is located in her hometown Skopje, in Macedonia, where she lived from 1910 to
1928.
