5 HELMET TOMBS, RUINS OF ANCIENT KGURYO KINGDOM (WORLD
CULTURAL HERITAGE)
The 5 Helmet Tombs are 5 large mounds at the southern end of
the ancient Yushan Cemetery in the northeastern suburbs of Ji’an City.
The No5 of the tombs is a stone chamber featuring murals.It
measures 4.37 meters from east to west, 356 meters from north t south and 2.18
meters in wall height. Above the beam are double caisson ceilings and the
highest point of chamber is 3.94 meters from the ground. Beautiful paintings
can be found on the walls in 4 sides, ceilings, coffin bed and both sides of

STELE OF KING HAOTAI,
RUINS OF ANCIENT KOGURYO KINGDOM (WORLD CULTURAL HERITAGE)
Situated 4000 meters east of Ji’an City, the stele is the
grave stone of King Haotai, the 19th king of Koguryo. Erected in
414, it is a square column cut from an
entire block of brecciaed tuff.Measuring 6.9 meters in heigh and 1.34 to 2
meters in width , it is engraved with 44 lines of the Han characters, 4
characters in each line.Today, a total
of 1775 characters remain intact, measuring 9cm to 10cm each.
Most of the
characters are official script and the rest are seal characters and regular
script,testify in the transition period of Chinese calligraphy from official
script to regular script.The stele is the existent earliest archaeological
material with most characters of Koguryo and an important cultural relic for
the study of the emergence and development of Koguryo.
GENERAL’S TOMB RUINS
OF ANCIENT KOGURYO KINGDOM (WORLD CULTURAL HERITAGE)
Located in the suburds of Ji’s an City, the General’s Tomb
is the burial place of King Longevity, the 20th generation king of
Koguryo. Dating to the early 5th century, the tomb is stone structured
in the shape of a pyramid, thus being dubbed as the “Pyramid of the Orient.” Constructed
on a granite square base, 31.58 meters in side length, the tomb is 12.4 meters
high and features more than 1100 granite slabs n 22 tiers piled up by seven
steps, the slabs becoming shorter tier by tier. Perfect in design and exquisite
in workmanship, the tomb is regarded as the best representative of stone
structured tombs of Koguryo and following that, the imperial tombs of Koguryo
was no longer stone structure.
WANDU MOUNTAIN CITY, RUINS OF ANCIENT KOGURYO KINGDOM (WORLD
CULTURAL HERITAGE)
Located on a high mountain in Shanchengzi Village in the
suburds of Ji’an Ciity ,Wandu Mountain City is 2.5 kilometers from Guonei City
of its time (present day urban Ji’an)
One of the famous city ruins of the early and middle periods
of Koguryo and one of the most typical earlier mountain cities of Kingdom ,
Wandu Mountain City features a mild sloping field surrounded by steep cliffs.
Still preserved today are ruins of the General Naming Platform, a horsepond and
palaces. A military of garrison of Guonei City and once the capital of Koguryo
,it played an important role in the development history of the Kingdom.
