Nestled in the lap of nature , the rolling meadows of Shillong Golf Club are bordered with pine and rhododendron trees. The history of golf in Shillong goes a long way ; in 1898, a bunch of British civil servants established a 9 hole course in Laban. After World war I, Shilling's popularity as European golf resort increased and in 1924, the present course with its club house was inaugurated.
Designed by Capt Jackson and C K Rhodes, the course has tight fairways which are covered with a local species of grass, ensuring tough game for most golfers. The longest hole on the course is the sixth one, which is 594 yards. there are fast greens here surrounded by heavy sand bunkers. the game often tests your physical strength as most tee pints are an uphill walk!
The climate is generally pleasant all year long , though rain could sometimes play spoilsport , with Shillong being just 56km from Cherrapunji- the wettest place on earth /
