Portugal Tomar - Chapel Of S. Lourenco

The chapel of S. Lourenco was built in the first quarter of 5 hundred by Aires de Quental. This chapel has a rectangular plant preceded by a galilee. Its interior is composed of a wooden ceiling and a high altar decorated by a set of Hispanoarabic tiles of the period. according to tradition, the patronage of this chapel was attributed to S. Lourenco because in the grounds where the temple was built the hosts of King D. João I and D Nuno Alvares Pereira joined on August 10, 1385 ( St Lourenco's day), 4 days before the battle of Aljubarrota. In one of the side facades was placed in 1948 a panel of tiles  evoking the event.
