Thailand South Region Phang -Nga Province - Mu Koh Surin National Park

The Surin Islands is part of the Mu Koh Surin National Park and consists of 5 islands of the Andaman Sea . It is 55 km from the Thai mainland and is part of the Phang Nga province. The 5 islands are Koh Surin Nuew, Koh Surin Tai, Koh Ri, Koh Kai and Koh Klang with Koh Surin Nuea and Koh Surin Tai being the 2 main islands of the group. The park is home of the one of the most famous dive sites in the world.

Ton Pariwat Wildlife Sanctuary is located in tambon Song Phraek. The low rise waterfall has a pond down below where there is still some deposits of ores. In the rainy season, the water gushes down strongly .At present, a package tour is offered by travel agencies to include trekking on an elephant's back through intact forests along both sides of the stream . Rafting is available for adventure lovers. It takes only 45 minutes and is available throughout the year

In 1974, this beautiful island was a location in a James Bondfilm ( The Man with Golden Gun). hence its name. the island belongs to the Ao Phang Nga National Park and is also known as Koh Tapu.

Wat Suwannakuha is known as the Buddha Cave Temple or Monkey located in Takua Thung District in Phang Nga. The cave temple host a big reclining golden Buddha and the temple has been visited by His Majesty King Rama V in 1890, King Rama VII in 1928 and King Rama IX in 1959. One of the main reasons it is called Monkey Temple is because there are many monkeys outside the temple.

Mu Koh Similan National Park or Similan Islands National Park is an archipalago consisting of 9 islands and situated 70 kilometers from Phang Nga town. Koh Kho Khao Island is located iff the coast of Takuapa to the North of Khao Lak. Koh Khao has endless beaches with beautiful Casuarina trees. Thailand South Region Phang-Nga Province- Baan Nam Ken Tsunami Memorial park

Baan Nam ken Tsunami Memorial Park is located of the west of Takua Pa and about 30 kilometers North of Khao Lak. It is built in 2006 in memory of the victims of the 2004 tsunami. the memorial bears the names and faces of 3500 Thais and foreigners who lost their lives in the area

Thailand South Region Trang Province - Phraya Ratsadanupradit Mahison Phakdi Monument

This monument was built to commemorate Phraya Ratsadanupradit Mahlson Phakdi, a former ruler of Trang Province who introduces and initiated rubber cultivation which led to the widespread planting of rubber in southern Thailand.

A man with long vision , he was instrumental in the development of Trang's infrastructure , agriculture , animal husbandry , education system and laid out the structure of local administration. the site is located in Trang Municipal Park, about 1 kilometer from the Provincial Hall on the Trang -Phatthalung route.

Thailand South Region Trang Province - Kuan Kang Hot Spring

Kuan Kang Hot Spring is located at Moo 7 , tambon Bo Nam Ron and one of the few hot springs in the southern region. The hot spring is accessible via road from Kantang ( 10 kilometers marker).

This natural hot spring offers a temperature averaging 60 degree Celsius and hot spring.

Thailand South Region Trang Province- Rachamongkol Museum ( Aquarium)

Rajamangala Aquarium is around 30 kilometers from the city on the Trang -Sikao- Pak Meng Road
( Highway no 4046-4162) . the large building is inside the Faculty of Science and Fisheries Technology, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, Trang Campus, Tambon Mai Fat.

The aquarium has 61 display tanks, not including fishponds and has both freshwater and marine fish, amphibians and the most realistic model of a mangrove forest. It is open daily during official hours.  

Thailand South Region Trang Province - Tham Khao Kop ( Kao Kop Cave)

An amazing natural wonder it is. When a canal that flows from Banthat Mountain meets the mountainous landscape of Khao Kop ( Kop hill) it separates  into 3 small canals, 2 of which flows into both sides of the hill while the center of which flows into a tunnel right underneath Khao Kop, creating an interesting landscape like no other. the Khao Kop Tamban Administration Organisation provides rowboats to facilitate visitors to enjoy this natural beauty while eco tourism and adventurous activities are also provided by locals. 

Thailand South Region Krabi Province - Koh Lanta Yai

Koh Lanta Yai's topography is long and narrow. This island is home to " Chao Le" or sea gypsies who continue to maintain their traditional lifestyle and beliefs, such as setting a boat adrift to drive out evil and bring good luck, which is practiced during the full moon in June and November.

Sala Dan Pier is where tour operators, shops and banks are situated. Several beautiful beaches are in the west such as Hat Kho Kwang, Hat Lo Bara, Ao Phra Ae, Hat Khlong Khong and Hat Khlong Nin. A paved road runs along the beaches all the way from the northern part of the island to the headquarters of the Mu Koh Lanta National Park in the south.The landscape is dominated by a series of mountains covered with virgin rainforest. To the east features an old community. The district office was previously here and later relocated to Koh Lanta  Noi. Most people on the island are Muslim. The communities of Ban Sang Ka -u still maintain their traditional Loi Ruea Ceremony.

Not far from the headquarters , Laem Tanot features a lighthouse, where visitors can enjoy the panoramic view of a pebble beach merging with a white sandy beach. At the end of the cape is Koh Mo, an ideal diving spot. Besides Laem Tanot, tourists can enjoy the Andaman Sea's spectacular view from many hilltop restaurants located in the central part of the island.

Originated from the lowland forest of Khao Nor Juji, supposedly Thailand's last piece of lush forest, the forest is home to numerous flora and rare birds like Gurney's Pitta. Koh Lanta is an island province consisting of 52 islands. Thailand South Region Krabi Province - Mu Koh Phi Phi

The island group is composed of 2 rocky, tree-covered islets Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Le. Koh Phi Phi Don - covers an area of 28 square kilometers. Outstanding attractions are the twin bays with curving white sandy beaches of Ao Ton Sai and Ao Lo Da Lam, Koh Phi Phi Pier, accommodation and restaurants are situated at Ao Ton Sai. Visitors can walk from this bay uphill to the scenic spot where the visibility of the twin bays is generally excellent. Beside Ao Ton Sai, there are also other attractive beaches and bays around the island. A number of accommodation available at Hat Laem Hin , Hat Yao and Ao Lo Bakao. At the northern end of the island is Laem Tong , renowned for its underwater natural art beauty with lodging available.

Koh Phi Phi Le -Covering an area of only 6.6 square kilometers , the islet is surrounded by limestone mountains and sheer cliffs plunging hundreds meters of the sea. the Sea is 20 meters deep and the deepest point in the south of the island is around 34 meters. Koh Phi Phi Le offers superb scenic bays such as Ao Pi Le, Ao Maya and Ao Lo Sa Ma. In the northeast of the island is a large cave called Tham Viking. The cave was renamed Tham Phaya or Naga Serpent Cave by His majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej because of a stone resembling the mythical creature, which His Majesty saw when he paid a visit in 1972. The cave is considered sacred to locals who come here to collect swallow nests.

Ao Maya and Ao Lo Sama - Phi Phi islands scenic covers are favorite snorkeling places while the sea around the islands ,especially the southern part, which are deep and full of coral formations are popular diving spots. With its emerald crystal sea, secluded beaches , mountain cliff , colourful coral reefs and undersea life. Phi Phi is a paradise in the Andaman Sea. the best time to visit Phi Phi islands is from November to April, when the sea is calm.

Koh Yung - An island to the north of Koh Phi Phi Don, has a stone beach on the east and small sandy beaches amid valleys. In addition, the island is teeming with diverse colourful coral reefs , Koh Phai, another island to the north of Koh Phi Phi Don and not far from Koh Yung, has spectacular beaches in the north and east of the island. The bank of coral reefs comprised mainly of antler corals stretches from the north to the south of the island.

Koh Mai Phai - Koh Mai Phai is north of Koh Phi Phi Don and not far from Koh Yung. Marvelous beaches are in the north and east of the island. the bank of coral reefs with staghorn corals, in particular , stretches from north to south of the island .

Thailand South Region Krabi Province - Mu Ko Lanta National Park

Covering a total area of 152 square kilometers . Mu Koh Lanta National Park is located in Amphoe Koh Lanta and consists of many islands. some major islands are Koh Lanta Yai , Koh Lanta Noi, Koh Taleng Beng, as well as other surrounding islands like Mu Koh Ha, Mu Koh Rok and Koh Ngai.

- Diving sports Hin Muang and Hin Daeng , Mu Koh Lanta National Park. It has been rated as one of the world's top ten dive sites not to be missed by keen divers. It is also the assembly point of large fish, especially the manta rays, the whale sharks and colourful prawns , among several other marine life.

- Koh Rok Nai and Rok Nok are located in the Mu Koh Lanta National Park, Koh Rok Nai is an island that is mostly steep cliffs. To the east, it offers a beach and unspoiled coral reefs among rocks. Laem Thong and Ao San Chao are to the north. Koh Rok Nai offers white  sandy beaches , crystal clear water and is still very intact, Nature trails are available , where tourist can enjoy the exercise and various species of plants. a camping ground is available

- Kok Rok Nok is full of soft white sandy beaches and coral reefs in shallow water in the southeast and the south,  To get there, Rent a boat from Pak Meng Pier, Trang province , which takes about 3-4 hours. Alternatively , take the speed boat from Koh Lan Yai. 

Thailand South Region Krabi Province - Wat Kaewkorawaram Krabi White Temple

Krabi White Temple or Wat Kaewkorawaram is located in the middle of Krabi town on Maharat Street .Wat Kaekorawaram is a Buddhist temple and there is a golden Buddha within the temple. the interior walls are painted with Buddhist art and it looks stunning . In addition, the white colour exterior of the temple makes for great photography.

Noppharat Thara is among Krabi's most famous beaches. Located only 6km away form Ao Nang Bay, Noppharat Thara beach features a 3km white sandy beach full of rows of casuarinas and coconut trees.The beach was formerly known as "Khlong Haeng Beach", which means a dried canal beach in Thai . The term was taken during low tide when the water dries up and reveals long, seashells paved seashore. Nopphrat Thara Beach is actually part of the marine national park. - Lot and Phi Hua to Caves :Prepared to be enthralled by stalactite and stalagmites in a tunnel beneath a limestone mountain or walk just about 500 meters enjoy an archaeological discovery among over sized human skulls , prehistoric paintings and piles of seashells in Phi Hua to cave or known as Hua Kalok Cave.

-Chao Le Cave : Located on western Laem Sak, the cave is embraced by the bay , mountain cliffs and groups of islands.The cave interior is an archaeological preciousness with prehistoric paintings of living creatures like humans and animals as well as obscure geometric signs dated back approximately in the following era of what happened in Phi Hua To Cave. To see the painting or its amazing stalactite and stalagmites, a 10-15 minute trip on canoes and rental boats is accessible from Laem Sak.

- Karot/Garose island : is a limestone mountain range of strange shapes caused by erosion of the wind and sea water. Canoeing is available on this island. Take a long tail boat from ban Khuan O to Karot.

-Dang island : The 25 meter white sandy beach is home to the 70 meter wide and 20 meter high caves and a diving heaven with multi colored corals.

- Hong islands : a cluster of islands that are just perfect for diving and fishing : Lao, Saka, Lao Riam, Pakka and Lao Lading islands but Hong or Lao Pile is the biggest of all in the South. Most are limestone with glistening clear turquoise, white sandy beaches accompanied by deep and shallow coral reefs. A renowned summer paradise, Hong is as well known as an adventurous challenge for hiking, boasting hiking passage of 400 meters and is suitable spot for canoe too. 

Thailand South Region Krabi Province -Thale Waek ( separated sea)

one of Thailand's unseen highlights, this amazing natural phenomenon is set to take place between Koh Thap, Koh Mo and Koh Kai 5 days before and after the full moon , from November to the early May, when tides change dramatically in different hours of a day. Thailand South Region Krabi Province - Mu Koh Poda

Situated south of Ao Nang, 8 kilometers offshore, Mu Koh Poda is fringed by clear waters and offers white sandy beaches , as well as , pristine attraction coral reefs. This is why it is a year round and an excellent place for fishing because it is not affected so much by the monsoon. Mu Koh Poda can be reached within 25 minutes by boat from Aonang.

Thailand South Region Krabi Province - Pa Phru Tha Pom Khlong Song Nam

Pa Phru Tha Pom Khlong Song Nam is located at Ban Nong Chik, Mu 2, Tambon Khao Khram , a distance of 23km , from the provincial town of Krabi. Pa Phru or peat swamp forest of the canal of Tha Pom features a number of water sources, which originate from the Chong Phra Kaeo pool.

Tha Pom is called Khlong Song nam by the locals, which is Thai literally means " Two water canal", because of its special feature location where crystal clear freshwater, which the pool's floor and the roots meets seawater from the mangrove forest. Tha Pom features a natural trail made of lath wooden chairs are located at certain points for nature lovers to conveniently admire the view of the place.

Pa Phru Tha Pom Khlong Song Nam is open daily from 8.30-1630 hrs. Admission fees for adults and children are 50 and 30 baht.

Thailand South Region Krabi Province- Wat Tham Suea

Wat Tham Suea, which literally means tiger cave temple , is located in the Khiriwong Valley amidst lush forests and mountains with large trees over a hundred years old approximately 9km northeast of Krabi town.aside from being the site of a meditation centre, the compound is also a place of archaeological and historical interest as excavations have uncovered stone tools, pottery remains and Buddha footprint crafting moulds. In addition, a cave in the compound has what appears to be tiger paw prints in the stone.

The dome is built on an area of 800 square meters and is 8 meters high under the temperature of minus 15 degree Celsius and 1 building in area of 900 square metes. the ice sculptures in the Ice Dome are carved by sculptors flown from Harbin, China. the Creation of the Hatyai Ice Dome is also due to the long lasting relationship for celebration of relationship between Thailand and China since 35 years.

Thailand South Region Hatyai Province- Phra Phothisat Kuan Im Nakhon Hatyai

Phra Phothisat Kuan Im Nakhon is a shrine dedicated to Guan Yin , The Goddess of Mercy.It is located on Hatyai Park's Hill together with Phra Phutthamongkol Maharaj, Hatyai Cable Car and Hatyai Observatory . the shrine also display other Buddhist deities and within the shrine there are many small garden statues of Guan Yin.  

Thailand South Region Hatyai Province- Wat Hat Yai Nai

Located on Phetkasem Road near Khlong U Taphao Bridge, this temple is home to Phra Phutta Hattha Mongkhon, believed to be the third largest reclining Buddha in the world with a size of 35 meter long , 15 meter tall and 10 meter wide, which is highly received by both Thai and foreign tourist.

Laem Samila is best known for its powdery sand beach , shady pine groves and is where Songkhla's most famous mermaid statue is located. The beach is easily accessible either by Hatyai -Songkhla buses or the minibus from the city directly to the beach .

Khu Khut Waterfowl Park was first established as a non hunting area on 19 April 1976. The park is a part of Thale Sap Songkhla or Songkhla Lake where its 227,916 rai ( 91,166 acres) covers the area in both Songkhla and Phatthalung provinces.

Thailand South Region Songkhla Province- Tinsulanond Bridge

Considered as the longest concrete bridge in Thailand, Tinsulanond Bridge was built across Songkhla Lake and is part of Highway 408 which was opened to traffic on 25 September 1986. First part of the bridge connected the coast of Amphoe Muang Songkhla at Ban Nam Krachai to the southern coast of Ko Yo for a total distance of 1,140 meters while the second part connected to the northern shore of Ko Yo to the coast of Ban Khao Khiao for a total distance of 1,800 meters

Thailand South Region Songkhla Province -Songkhla lake

Considered the largest lake and the only natural freshwater lake in Thailand, Songkhla Lake covers approximately 80 kilometers long and 20 to 25 kilometers wide which encompass the area of both Songkhla and Phattalung provinces. The lake has several small islands that is worth a visit for a daytime relaxation such as Koh Yai, Koh Si, Koh Ha, Koh Kaeo , Koh Mak, Koh Rai and Koh Yo via the long tailed boat services that is available for island touring all day at a pier behind the post office and the fresh market. 

Thailand South Region Songkhla Province - Khao Nam Khang Historic Tunnel

Located in the area of Khao Nam Khang National Park, approximately 4 kilometers from the park office, this historic tunnel ( also known as Piyamit Village 5) was built to be the safe house for the Communist insurgents for almost 40 years before the party dispersed and became part of Thai Development Participants in 1987. This attraction has become Thailand's longest man-made tunnel that took 2 years to complete. 

Thailand South Region Songkhla Province- Songkhla National Museum

The Songkhla National Museum was constructed on Chana Road in Chinese style back in 1878 to serve as the residence for Songkhla's ruler. The place later became the residence of Songkhla's upper administrative officers and City Hall before being converted into a museum for exhibiting southern artifacts in 1953.

Another Charming hill top attraction in Leam Samila area is Khao Tang Kuan which is not only the place visitors can catch the beautiful  city view and Songkhla Lake but also where the famous Sala Vihan Daeng , the royal pavilion built during King Rama V's reign.  Beside the Sala Vihan Daeng is the sacred pagoda Dvaravati Chedi believed to contain the Lord Buddha's relics. 

Thailand South Region Songkhla Province- Reclining Buddha at Wat Phranon laem Pho, Ko Yo

Wat Phranon Laem Pho or Phranon Laem Pho temple is located on Ko Yo island, a small island in Lake Songkhla. The gold colour reclining Buddha is visible when travelling to Koh Yo from south. The entrance fee to Wat Phranon Laem Pho is free.

Thailand South Region Songkhla Province- Wat Pa Maha Jedi Kaeo ( Wat Larn Kuad)

The Buddhist temple  is remarkable with architectures made from millions of colorful glass bottles donated by the people. All the architecture is beautiful, particularly the pavilion called " Sala Thansamo Maha Chedi Kaeo" Ubosoth located in the middle  of the pond. The ubosoth houses a very beautiful white jade Buddha

Thailand South Region Narathiwat Province - Sirindhorn Peat Swamp Forest Natural Research and Study Center ( To Daeng Peat Swamp Forest Pa Pru To Daeng)

This last remaining peat swamp forest in Thailand spreads over 3 districts including Tak bai, Sungai Kolok and Sungai padi. Covering an area of 192 square kilometers, of which 80 square kilometers are dense forests, the swamp is rich in fauna and flora. The 1,200 meter trail starts from a swamp behind the research with one segment of the trail consisting of a wooden bridge suspended by metal slings and another consisting of a high tower for viewing the lush scenery .

Thailand South Region Narathiwat Province - Narathat Beach

This white powdered sandy beach stretching for 5 kilometers is located near the estuary of the Bang Nara River, where the annual Korlae boat races are held. The beach is naturally decorated with dense pine trees, which provide a tranquil shady area suitable for pitching tents. Several beaches restaurants serving southern -style cuisine and accommodation facilities are provided. The view from the beach is impressive , as there is backdrop of fishing villages extending along the river and the bay is full of Korlae fishing boats.

Thailand South Region Narathiwat Province - Khao Kong Buddhist Park

The main attraction in Wat khao Kong is a graceful southern Buddha image, the garden Phra Phutta Thaksin Ming Mongkhon, which is seated in the lotus position. The construction of the steel reinforced concrete image that as decorated with gold mosaics started in 1966 and was completed in 1969. This mountaintop Buddha image, which is considered to be the most beautiful and largest ( 17 meters wide and 24 meters high) outdoor Buddha image in southern Thailand, is decorated in the South Indian Style.

Thailand South Region Narathiwat Province - Chao Mae Tomo Shrine

The Shrine is located in Soi Phuthon, Charoen Khet Road. Originally housed at Ban Tomo in Amphoe Su Khirin , villagers transferred Chao Mae Tomo to Su-ngai Kolol District. The goddess is highly revered by the local residents and residents of nearby provinces, as well as Chinese Malaysian.

Every year, a festival is held at the shrine on the 23rd day of the third month of the Chinese calendar ( around April) .Activities undertaken include a procession, lion parade, a fancy acrobatic stilts procession, a long drum procession and walking over hot cool.

Thailand South Region Narathiwat Province - Wat Chon Thara Singhe

Built in 1909, it is located in an area that is a predominantly Muslim. the Thai side raised the fact that since this is a Buddhist temple, it should remain with Thailand. The British relented and agreed to use the Golok River ( Tak Bai River) that flows through Tak Bai as the boundary. Therefore , the temple is also called Wat Phithak Phaen Din Thai or the temple that protects Thai sovereignty. The temple is generally peaceful and has a spacious lawn on the riverbank that is ideal for relaxation. The Chapel, built in the reign of King Rama V, has murals drawn by monks from Songkhla. The paintings depict the life of the Lord Buddha and the daily life of locals at that time.

Thailand South Region Narathiwat Province - Narathiwat Central Mosque

The mosque is located Ban Bang Nara, just before Narathat Beach . This mosque, which is the provinces second central mosque built in 1982,is a religious site highly revered by Thai Muslims. This 3 story Arabian -style building with a large dome on top has the main convention hall on the ground floor and the prayer rooms on the top 2 floors. In addition, there is a high tower that is used to call Muslims to prayer. 

Thailand South Region Narathiwat Province - Thaksin Ratchaniwet Palace

This palace is on Tanyongmat Mountain, Tambon Kaluwo Nua,on the coast near Manao Bay. It is 8 kilometers from town on Highways no 4084 9 Narathiwat -Tak Bai). Situated on an area of 480,000 square meters at the summit of the Tan Yong Mut Mountain. His majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadei commissioned its construction in 1973 as his royal summer residence. The compound is comprised of throne halls decorated with an assortment of trees which provide a good shade for the whole area. A craft center providing training on pottery and ceramics, as well as selling products is also located nearby. 

Thailand South Region Narathiwat Province - Taloh-Manoh Mosque ( Wadil -husen Mosque or the 200 year Old Mosque)

The mosque itself consists of 2 adjacent buildings built in a mixture of local Thai, Chinese  and Malay architectural styles. The most prominent features is the building's 3 tiered roof where the Iman Prays. The top tier features a dome constructed in the Chinese Pavilion style. In the past, it functioned as the minaret or tower where people were called from at prayer times.Visitors can see the building from the surrounding area. 

Thailand South Region Narathiwat Province - Luang Pho Daeng Of Wat Choeng Khao

The temples former abbot and a revered monk of the province , Luang Pho Daeng , died on 1 January 1979 at the age of 90 years old. After death , his body did decompose, resulting in much reverence by local residents who placed his body in a glass coffin for others to pay their respect. This temple is situated at Mu 4, Ban Choeng Khao, Tamban Paluka Samo, approximately 13 kilometers from the District Office on the way to Pattani. Take highway no 42( Phetchakasem Road) , turn left at Ban Ton Thay and drive for 5.5 kilometers. 

Thailand South Region Narathiwat Province - Budo Sungai Padi Mountain Range National Park

The park is part of the Sankala Khiri Mountain  Range that serves as a natural border between Thailand and Malaysia .The area was once mostly inhabited by guerrillas. Therefore , few people could get in to admire the natural beauty of the virgin jungle. It was only with the establishment of the Pacho Waterfall Park (later known as Budo-Su-nagi Padi National Park) in 1974 by the Royal Forestry Department that the situation had changed.The park occupies an area of 294 square kilometers and extends into parts of Narathiwat , Yala and Pattani Provinces. 

Thailand South Region Pattani Province - Chao Mae Lim Ko Niao Chinese Shrine/ Leng Chu Kiang Shrine

The location of Chaop Mae Lim Ko Niao sculpture and Chinese gods is on A No Ru Road. On the day of 3rd lunar month every year, there is the colorful procession carrying Chao Mae's sculpture along several roads in town, walking on fire in front of the shrine and swimming across the river near Dechanushit Bridge. The city welcomes numerous worshippers every year/ 

Thailand South Region Pattani Province - Pattani City Pillar Shrine

Situated in Sak Seni ground of Banchama Rachutit School, just opposite to the city hall, on the left bank of Pattani River, the shrine was constructed on 13 april 1951 when Phraya Rattana Phakdi was the Governor. This site is mostly worshipped by the Pattani people and visitors.

Thailand South Region Satun Province - Namtok Than Plio

The 2 level waterfall originates from Lung Khroe Mountain in Trang -Satun border. The lower level is a basin that is 40 meters wide and 50 meters long. The waterfall is surrounded by lush vegetation and various kinds of trees. 

Thailand South Region Pattani Province - Namtok Sai Khao National Park

Located in Tambon Sai  Khao, covering the forest in Pattani, Yala and Songkhla , with a total area of 68,750 Rai , this evergreen forest is full of various kinds of plants  and a variety of waterfalls. The most beautiful waterfalls is Sai Khao Waterfalls which can be reached on foot from the Parks office along the creek. At the end, is the waterfall, which is 40 meters high. The surroundings are evergreen forest. Visitors can swim in some natural ponds. 

Thailand South Region Pattani Province - Wat Mutcharinthawapiwihan

This ancient Wat was built in 1845 on the same occasion of moving the Nong Chik District Office to tambon Tuyong. It was formally called Wat Tuyong and was changed to Wat Mutjarintawapiwihan on the state visit of King Rama V to Nong Chik. At present, its temple is still beautiful .With the sculptures of the past 3 abbots, especially Phra Ratchaphuttarangsi, the 5th abbot. 

Thailand South Region Pattani Province - Chao Mae Lim Ko Niao Graveyard

As per the story from the legend, Lim Ko Niao , a chinese girl came to Siam by ship to look for Lim To Khiam, her elder brother who had got married with the Pattani Gorvenors daughter and had converted to Islam. However , she was not successful. Therefore , she hung herself on the cashew nut tree. Her brother buried her at this place. The Pattani people built the shine to commemorate her and carved the tree where she hung herslf in the shape of her figure.

Thailand South Region Pattani Province - Dato Mosque

Located at Mu4, Ban Dato, Tambon Laem Pho, it is about 10 kilometers from Yaring District Hall on the same route to talo-kapo beach. This old mosque is surrounded by Islamic community and graveyard and has been renovated and is still used for religious ceremony. 

Thailand South Region Pattani Province - Pattani Central Mosque

This is the most beautiful and largest mosque in Thailand. Built in 1954, the construction of this mosque took almost 9 years. It is the centre for religious ceremonies to be performed by the Muslims in the South. The architecture is western . with similarity to the Taj Mahal of India. With the big dome in the center, there are 4 surrounding small ones with 2 minarets. A big pond is in front of the mosque and inside is a large hall and 3 sided corridors. 

Thailand South Region Pattani Province - Yarang Ancient Town

The city was one of  the oldest communities in the history of the southern part of Thailand. It is believed that it was the location of the ancient kingdom of Lanka  Suka which had its boundary covering the area of Songkhla , Pattani , Yala and Narathiwat of Thailand , Kelantan and Terengganu of Malaysia according to the documents from China , Java, Malaya and Arab . It was a part with long wide trading history with the foreigners since B.E.12. The Structure of the ancient town was the large oval shape in the area of 9 square kilometers.

Thailand South Region Pattani Province - Krue Se Mosque

This mosque is on highway no 42 ( Pattani -Narathiwat route) at Ban Krue Se, and is about 7 kilometers from the Pattani town. At present , this ancient venue is near Chao Mae Lim Ko Niao Chinese Shrine. Both places had their legend of the relationship depending on the beliefs. This mosque has round pillars which is the middle -east art style. The most important part is the domes roof which has never been finished. It is believed that this mosque was built during the reign of King Naresuan the Great 1578-1593)

Thailand South Region Pattani Province - Ban Paseyawo

this is a well known venue for Kolae Boat making. This kind of boat is for the fishermen in Pantai and Narathiwat. The highlighting characteristic of the Kalae is the narrowing head and tall, with unique color. Besides the real Kolae for fishery , there are also imitations made for souvenirs. The making of kolae by the local people here has been accepted by its neatness which integrates arts between Thai and Muslim. Otherwise, ban Paseyawo is also reputed as best in producing tasteful Budu, a sauce made from anchovy.

Thailand South Region Pattani Province -Wat Chang Hai Rat Buranaram

This old monastery was built more than 300 years ago with the sculpture of Luang Pu Tuad, once an abbot of the temple.Also, the architecture of stupa , chedi ,temple and bell tower are  magnificently beautiful  Luang Pu Thuat, Wat Chang Hai, is respected by people all over the country, Luang Pu Thuat was an educational mark. It was said that he was able to turn sea water into fresh water.

Thailand South Region Satun Province -Koh Khai

A small, mountains island with a distance of 4 kms from Hat Bo Mao, Koh Khai is surrounded with many short, attractive beaches. The island's beauty, however ,lies below the surface of the crystal clear water. It is encircled by colorful coral reef teeming with fish and other marine life. It is counted as one of the best fishing place in the district. 

Thailand South Region Satun Province - Koh Lipe

Koh Lipe ( sometimes referred to as Koh Leepeeh or Koh Leepay) is a small island in the Southern Thai province of Satun and is situated in the Andaman Sea. The island is part of the Tarutao National Marine Park, a large group of over 70 islands . Koh Lipe is part of a small cluster of 10 islands about 70 kilometers off shore.

All of the islands can be visited on day trips and the largest island in the group, Koh Adang, has bungalows ran by National Park Authority. The name "Koh Lipe" means paper island in the local Chao Ley ( or Urak Lawoi or Sea Gypsy) language.

Thailand South Region Satun Province - Phu Pha Phet

It is the largest cave in Thailand and discovered by accident by a monk. The monk was looking for a perfect place to meditate and found the cave by chance. Phu Pha Piet is also known as Diamond Cave due to its shinny particles in the cave and it is 18 hectares in total size. 

Thailand South Region Satun Province - Thale Ban National Park

Thale Ban is a large lake covering an area of around 25,000 acres. Most of the area is a complex combination of mountains and dense woods. Wild animals found here include serow, elephant , tapir, common wild pig , monkey , gibbon and Khiat Wak, or MaNam ( Giant Asiatic toad or Malaysian giant toad). The food is considered as a symbol of Thale Ban. It looks like a combination of a frog and a toad, with a tail. But its sound is like a puppy. The lakeside , particularly in the rainy season, teems with this unique animal.

For bird -watchers, this place offers and opportunity that should not be missed. There are various species of bird, such as  whiskered treeswift, stripe -throated bulbul, chestnut -naped forktail, woodpecker.   

Thailand South Region Satun Province - Mu Ko Phetra National Park

The sampan shaped Island in Andaman Sea was declared a national park on 31 December, 1984. It consists of a long coastline from Satun to Trang province. The several off-shore islands include Koh Phetra, Koh Khao Yai, Liang and Koh Perama. Most of the area consists of steep mountains with plains in the valleys and beaches. The park occupies both land and sea areas with a total 494.38 square kilometers. It is full of forest , mountains, wildlife and colorful corals. 

Thailand South Region Satun Province - Bung Thale Ban

Bung Thale Ban is a large swamp situated in the middle of a valley surrounded by Chun and Wang Pra Mountains . The swamp covers an a area of 320 square kilometers and is full of freshwater fish and shells. The Park built a pavilion beside the swamp which has abundance of Balakong trees. Operating time is from 8am to 5pm.

Thailand South Region Satun Province - Satun Central Mosque

Satun Central Mosque ( Masjid Mambang) is located on Burit Wanita Road and Satun Thani Road in the center of Satun. The mosque was built in modern Islamic architecture style and decorated with marble and colorful glasses. The building is divided into 2 parts: outside is a corridor that leads to a dome rower where there are picture square views of Satun town. Inside is a prayer hall and the library is located in the basement. Previously Masjid Bambang was a one storey building . Its unique 3 tier roof were arranged in a pyramid shape with the smallest one on top and the largest at the bottom to cover the whole building. The floors were covered with brown tiles.

The interior measured 13 meters both in length and width and the building was supported by 4 wooden poles. The original Masjid had deteriorated because of its wooden structures and because  it was too small to accommodate worshipers performing prayers . It was then uprooted and rebuilt in the same plot of  land. The new building was completed in May ,1979.

Thailand South Region Satun Province - Tarutao National Park

Declared a natinal park on 19 April, 1974 and ASEAN Heritage Parks and Reserves by UNESCO in 1982.

Thailand's first marine national park is renowned for its history and natural beauty. The best time for a visit is during November to April. Ko Tarutao, the largest island  of the park, covers  an area  of 152 square kilometers. Most of the areas are mountains with a moist evergreen forest home to interesting species of plants and wildlife. There are many bays , both small and large, with beautiful beaches. In the sea, various species of fish , including endangered species of sea turtle, can be seen .

The word "Tarutao" was gradually changed from " Talotrao" in Malay, which means  many bays.

Thailand South Region Yala Province - Piyamit Tunnel

Piyamit Tunnel is at Ban Piyamit 1, Tamban Tano Mae Ro. Take the same route as the Hot Spring for 4 more kilometers. This area is the village of the Thai Development Participants and was once the base of Malaya Communist Division 2. The tunnel was built in 3 months in 1976 winding through the mountain for about 1 kilometer, about 50-60 feet wide with multiple entrances. It was used as the air raid shelter and food storage area. At present, there is an exhibition about its history including the way of life in the forest. It is open to the public from 8am to 4.30pm. 

Thailand South Region Yala Province - SnamChang Phueak Peak

This is located on Thanon Phiphitphakdi in an 80 ral plot of land( 1 acre =2.5 rai) .It was used as the ground to give the King  a white elephant ( chang phueak) named Phra Sawet Sura Khachattan on 9 March B.E.2511. The park has a pavilion in the middle of a large pond and various sculptures of animals. the ground of the park is also used for provincial activities. 

Thailand South Region Yala Province - Khuean Bang Lang / Bang Lang Dam

The Bang Lang Dam , also known as the Pattani Dam, is a multi purpose hydroelectric dam in the Bannang Sata District of Yala Province , Thailand. It was the first multi purpose dam developed in Thailand's southern region.Bang Lang Dam is an earth core rockfill dam. It is 430m (1410ft) long and 85m ( 279ft)high. Its reservoir has a maximum storage capacity of 1,420,000,000 Cubic Meter (m3
 ( 5.0 x 1010 cu ft) with catchment area of 2,080  km2    Square kilometers. 

The dam is considered multi purpose supporting electricity generation, irrigation , flood control, fisheries and recreation activities.  

Thailand South Region Yala Province - Betong Town / Betong Clock Tower / The Largest Mail Box in Thailand / Betong Hot Spring

Betong Town 
The word Betong is Malay, meaning bamboo. This district is at the southernmost point of Thailand , about 140 kilometres from Amphoe Muang Yala, on Highway 410. The road between Amphoe Than To and Amphore Betong winds on the hillside, affording the scenery of the lake, forest and rubber plantations. The Betong city centre is surrounded by mountains , resulting in cool climate and high rainfall with frequent fog in the morning. It is therefore dubbed The city in the Fog with beautiful flowers. Betong is  a large developed district . Malaysian tourists often visit the area because of its proximity. The food is outstanding and has a lot of tourists attractions.

Travelling to Betong : from Amphoe Muang , one can take the van or taxi that operates hourly from across the Yala Railway Station.

Betong Clock Tower 
The clck tower is situated at the roundabout at the center of the Betong town . The Clock tower is made of marble and protected by an external structure. The tower is believed as old as the tiwn and also an iconic building of Betong Town. 

Betong Hot Spring is situated at Ban Chao Parai Village, Tamban Tano Mae Ro, about 5 kilometers before reaching the Betong city centre, turn right from Highway 410 for another 8 kilometres into the village. At the hottest spot, eggs are cooked in 7 minutes. Hot spring shower is also available . It is believed that hot spring can cure muscle pain and minor skin irritation.

The Largest Mail Box in Thailand
The Largest Mail Box in Thailand used to be located at the Bell tower intersection of Betong. It was built in 1924 before World War II as the communication post for the towns people, through the radio implanted on top of the box and the mail slot below it. A new box has been built in a larger size ( 9 meters tall) and is located at the City Convention Hall ( Sala Prachakhom) .The new mail box attracts a large number of tourists who come to take photographs.

Also known as Wat Natham , This temple is one of the 3 most revered places of the south, along with Phra Borommathat at Nakhob Si Thammarat and Phra Borommathat Chaiya at Surat Thani, signifying the importance of Buddhism in the area since the Srivijaya Period. A stream runs through the ground of the temple . A figure of a giant , made in B.E 2484 and named by villagers as Chao Khao, protects the entrance of the cave that houses the reclining Buddha. Inside the cave is a large chamber that has been converted into a religious area, with an opening in the roof of the cave that lets in the sunlight.
