AZERBAIJAN
Azerbaijan is a country in South Eastern Europe, situated on
Caspian Sea. To the north the country border Russia, to the west border Armenia
and on the south border Iran.
Total area of Azerbaijan is 86600 sq km.
Azerbaijian is located generally in subtropical zone and elongates from the
north west to south east towards the Caspian Sea. Azerbaijian is a mountain
country, where high ridges and plateaus combined with plains and lowlands.
About 60% of the Azerbaijian territory covered by mountains and 40% by lowland.
Azerbaijian is rich in its history, ethnographic palette
different traditions, including religious and culinary ones, history monuments.
All this makes the country a great place for tourism.
AZERBAIJIAN HANDICRAFT
Azerbaijian preserved centuries old tradition of handmade
carpets produced from natural ingredients. A significant share of the carpert
production is exported primarily to such countries as England, Germany ,China ,
France,USA and Japan.
AZERBAIJIAN FOOD
Azerbaijian has always been famed for its cookery. The
abundance of vegetables , fruit , fragrant herbs and spices have inspired
Azerbaijian cooks to invent new and new national dishes which are so
distinctive that you can never mix them up with the dishes of the other
peoples.
Even the most sophisticated gourmets coming to Zerbaijian
from all over the world appreciate the exquisite taste and subtle aroma of
these dishes. A multitude of foods that are indigenous to Azerbajian people,
food is an important part of culture and is deeply rooted in the Azerbaijian
history, people’s traditions and other features of the nation.
GOBUSTAN
Gobustan is open air museum littered with Neolithic rock
drawing. Just 65km south of Bau, Gobustan has some inscriptions that go back
12000 years ( with some 2000 year old Latin graffiti to boot. Stone Age folks
sporting loin cloths pose hunt and boogie down
Their dances are thought to have been accompanied by the
melodious strains of the Gaval –Dashy (Tambourine –stone) .A rock that has a
deep, resonating tone when struck.
The well preserved sketches display ancient populations
travelling on reed boats; men hunt antelope and wild bulls, women dance. The
famed Norwegian anthropologist Thor Heyerdahl returned many times to
Azerbaijian bet between 1961 and his death in 2002 to study the site, which he
argued to be evidence that modern day Scandinavians migrated north through the
Caucasus in prehistoric times.
He found similarities in the drawings to those
found in Scandinavia particularly some in Alta, Norway. According to Icelandic
Sagas, written in the 13th century, the Norse God Odin 9Wotan
)migrated from the Caucasus in the first century AD.
