1. TRONGSA ( 2300 METERS)
Trongsa forms the central hub of
the Kingdom & historical place from where attempts at unifying country were
launched. It is also known as the Vanguard of the Warriors. The first and
second Kings of Bhutan ruled Bhutan from Trongsa. The Crown Prince normally
holds the position of the Trongsa Penlop before ascending to the Throne.
Trongsa Dzong : Trongsa Dzong
serves as the seat of power over Central and Eastern Bhutan. It is the
ancestral home of the present Royal Family. The first 2 hereditary kings ruled
Bhutan from this Dzong.
For Ta Dzong : Perched above the Trongsa
Dzong, this is a watch tower which once stood guard over the Trongsa Dong from
the internal rebellion. It’s now being turned into a heritage museum.
2. MONGAR ( 1600 METERS)
It covers an area of 19544 sq kms
and ranges from 400 m to 4000 m in altitude. Deep Gorges and stark cliffs amidst
dense conifer forest constitute its landscape.
MONGAR DZONG : This Dzong was
first built in 1930s and is among the
newest Dzongs in Bhutan . It was rebuilt in 1953.
3. TRASHIGANG ( 1500 METERS )
Situated on the banks of the Gamri Chhu, Trashigang is the country ‘s
largest district . It is the junction which connects Samdrupjongkhar in the
Southeast Bhutan and the central and western districts.
TRASHIGANG DZONG : This Dzong lies
on the headland of the Dzongkha. The Trashigang Dzong was built in the year
1659 and serves as the administrative and religious seat for the Trashigang
district.
4. TRASHIYANGSTE( 1715 METERS)
Is a small but a rapidly growing
town and administrative center of the district. The main town is situated in a
small river valley and is a lovely spot to take walks in the countryside .
This area is famous for wooden
containers and bowls.
TRASHIYANGSTE DZONG : This is one
of the oldest Dzongs in Bhutan. It was previously known as the Dongdi Dzong and
was renamed as Trashiyangtse Dzong ( the fortress of the auspicious forture).
CHORTEN KORA: It is the most
important stupa in Transhiyangtse built in the year 1740 by Lama Ngawang Loday,
the newphew of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal.
GOM KORA : It is situated 24 km
from the Trashigang Dzong in Trashigang in the eastern Bhutan. The name Gomphu
Kora is derived from a cave in the place. This place has been believed to have
been blessed by Guru Rimpoche.
5.PHUENTSHOLING ( 293 METERS)
Phuentsholing is the border town
of Southern Bhutan. It is also thriving commercial center on the northern edge
of the Indian Plains. The drive from Phuentsholing to Thimphu or Paro is about
6 hours. Visitors can reach Phuentsholing by road from Sikkim, Darjeeling and
Bagdora airport in West Bangal.
KHARBAANDI GOEMPA : Monastery was
founded by the Royal Grand Mother, Ashi Phuntsho Choden in the year 1967. The
monastery contains paintings on the life of Buddha and statues of Shabdrung
Ngawang Namgyal and Guru Rimpoche.
ZANGDO PELRI: A small Buddhist temple
situated in the heart of Phuentsholing town representing celestial abode of
Guru Rinpoche.
6. LHUENTSE ( 2300 METERS)
It is one of the 20 dzongkhag
comprising Bhutan and consists of 2506 households. Located in the northeast ,
Lhuntse is one of the least developed dzongkhag of Bhutan. The land is mostly
covered in dense coniferous forests and stark cliff above river gorges makes it
spectacular. The region is famous for textiles and its weavers for their
distinct textile patterns. Kishuthara, a Bhutanese textile which is highly
priced, comes from this region.
7.SAMDRUP JONGKHAR ( 220 METERS)
Samdrup Jongkhar town holds the
distinct honor of being one of the oldest Bhutan town . This border town is a
bustling little settlement packed to the brim with shopkeepers and hawkers from
across the border. As a border town, Samdrup Jongkhar is often used as the
entry point for merchants and tourists entering Easter.
