Macau stages a section of the volleyball matches in the spacious Forum
stadium with international teams battling to qualify for the finals.

U LAN CHIT ( FEAST OF HUNGRY GHOSTS)
In order to appease the souls of those in Purgatory (who come to cause
trouble on earth this day) the community burn offerings of Hell Money and paper
objects like cars and television sets, to placate the dead. They are burnt
along with joss sticks and offerings of food on the pavements or at the
entrance of houses.

MID AUTUMN FESTIVAL
Everyone loves to celebrate the 15th Day of the 8th
Moon, the most beautiful of the year. They give each other mooncakes and gather
in park and on hills, to admire the moon while they picnic by the light of
lanterns in the shape of traditional hares and modern spaceships. In Macau the
traditional spots for this are the Praia Grande and Nam Van Lakes, all garden and
Hac Sa and Cheoc –Van beaches in Coloane.

MACAU INTERNATIONAL FIREWORKS DISPLAY CONTEST
The largest and the best of its kind in the world. Experts from different
countries are invited to compete with spectacles of fireworks set off over Nam
Van Lake and Waterfront near the Macau Tower.
15.
INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL
This is a festival that every year brings to Macau
some of the finest orchestras, singers, choirs and musicians from east and
west. There are outdoor performances, in the parks and old churches and the Dom
Pedro V Theatre as well as the Ultra-Modern Cultural Center. The main event is
traditionally the performance of a grand opera.

MACAU GRAND PRIX
Celebrating over half century, this is probably the
most internationally known event in Macau because it represents the climax of
the Formula 3 calendar , with winners generally going on to compete in Formula
1. The Grand Prix is in fact a series of car and motorcycle races around a
circuit of city streets. For several days the city buzzes with an entraordinary
excitement: the noise of the engines, the crowd of tourists, and the colourful
decoration of the streets.

MACAU INTERNATIONAL MARATHON
The International Marathon, first hosted by Macau in
1981, continues to attract number of local and international long distance
runners. The full course Marathon includes the Peninsula, Taipa and Coloane,
while the half marathon and mini marathon are designed to attract not only
professional athletes but amateurs seeking to test their endurance.

CHRISTMAS
Although the great majority of the population in Macau
is not Christian, everyone enjoys this season, with decorated streets,
Christmas trees and Nativity scenes, midnight mass, Portuguese Christmas cakes
and parties in every restaurant.
