SIGHTSEEING
The
Philippines is composed of numerous sights such as the UNESCO World Heritage
site Banaue Rice Terraces, Underground River in Palawan, Chocolate Hills and
Tarsier in Bohol, Spanish style architecture in Vigan Ilocos Sur, Baroque Style
Churches, Volcanoes such as Taal Volcano in Tagaytay and Mt Mayon in Albay,
Corregidor Island is a fortress that stands as a memorial for those who fought
during WWII.
SHOPPING AND
DINING
The
Philippines is a shopper’s delight. There are many places where you can shop
depending on what you intend to buy and your budget. The Philippines is well
known for its handicrafts, woodcarvings and exquisite items made of shells.
These interesting finds are often sold in handicraft centers, flea markets and
even shopping malls. There are lots of handicrafts bazaars in Manila, Cebu,
Baguio and Zamboanga.
The cuisine
of the Philippines, just like the people there is an interesting mixture of its
multi ethnic culture and foreign influence. But unlike its Asian neighbors
Filipino cuisine is moderately spiced.
Rice is the
staple food of the Filipino but Chinese influence is evident in foods like
lumpia or rolls, pancit, a type of Chinese noodle and the famous lechon (roasted
pig).
While Spanish influence is apparent on dishes like adobo, mechado and
menudo. Seafood is also a staple in local dining experience and are popularly
served grilled or inihaw or kinilaw, raw seafood marinated in vinegar with
ginger, onions, tomatoes, salt and pepper. Tropical fruits like mangoes,
papaya, banana lanzones and rambutan are also plentiful especially during the
summer season.
