ROOTS AND CULTURE
PEEL BACK THE LAYERS AND GO BACK TO THE BEGINNING AND THEN
FLY THROUGH TO TODAY AND BE INSPIRED ALONG THE WAY
History and culture. It’s the lifeblood of a nation. The
heartbeat of its soul. It’s where we have been, where we are headed. It’s who
we are – a vibrant mix of people from Africa, Europe and Asia.
And who we are is ancient – 4 million years old. With our
roots as Australopithecus africanus in the Cradle of Humankind, our history is
rich, diverse and filled with legend.
There’s the Mapungubwe Hill- evidence of an ancient thriving
African economy. There’s incredible San rock art and the famous Ndebele culture
where creativity is expressed through colourful design. And there is Venda-
home of ancient sacred baobabs and the Rain Queen Modjadji.
One can visit the hauntingly beautiful battle fields- once
the scene of war between Zulu, Boer and British – and now a place of peace. Or
you can enjoy the country’s jazz, drama, art, foods. There are cultural
villages and music, dance and drama festivals.
You can overnight in tents or caves, 5 star hotels, traditional
villages or homely bed and breakfast. Whatever you choose, know you will be
warmed by people reaching out to make you smile!
