Agro tourism is popular and fascinating as Malaysia was once
an agriculture based economy. In fact many Malaysians are still very involved
in this sector. The industry is sustained by crops like corn, soya bean ,

fruit trees around the houses andno visit is complete without trying at least
some of the varieties available. Enjoy a bite of freshly plucked star fruit,
banana , ciku , rambutan, durian, pineapple, mango , mangosteen , jackfruit and
many other local fruits. Coconut trees can be easily spotted swaying gracefully
in most homestay villages. Its juice is a popular thirst quencher.
Villagers usually fish using fishing rods, traditional fish
traps or cast nets. Some rivers and ponds yield popular and tasty freshwater
fishes. These include the ikan toman (Giant Snake Head Fish), which can weigh
up to 8 kilogrammes or even the ikan patin( Cat Fish) , which is
considered a delicacy.
Homestay visitors can also observe various farm animals such
as chickens, ducks , buffaloes and goats in the vicinity of the kampungs.
Together with the locals,you can try your hand at either feeding or milking
them.
MANGOSTEEN
The mangosteen keeps within its purple skin several segments
of soft white fruit. The fruits is delicate and its taste , sweet. A must try!
