Many kampungs are located by rich tropical rainforest and
lie close to rivers and lakes.You can explore it easily on foot or where
possible, in a boat. You are likely to find extremely rich flora and fauna all
around.
Even larger mammals like elephants, tapirs and deer can also be spotted
now and then. You might also discover a mid-jungle stream or waterfall, which
would make for a refreshing pit stop.

VILLAGE PAST TIMES
Visitors can indulge in fun village pastimes, which range
from simple traditional games to the energetic sepak takraw.
Most villagers enjoy congkak – a game played on an elongated
board with 2 rows of holes carved into it. Marbles or seeds are use as tokens.
The village children would only be too happy to teach a curious visitors the simple rules of this addictive game.
Malaysia is renowned for its colourful giant kites.
Magnificent in size and traditional in design, a wau is a good representation
of the artistic skills that coastal villagers possess. Painstakingly crafted,
it has floral designs pasted on it and is embellished with paper tassels.
Homestay kampungs located in the east coast states of Terengganu and Kelantan
re good locations to witness them in actions.
Wau- making is a specialized skill that has been handed down
for generations and villagers will gladly share their wau flying skills with
visitors.
A recreational game, gasing, or top spinning, is a pastime
that is popular among the paddy planting community after the harvest.
The gasing is carved out of tropical hardwood into a disc,
with a metal spike through its apex. Gasings are huge and can reach weighs of
up to seven kilogrammes.The cord, made of rope , is neatly wrapped around the
top of the gasing, which is launched with great force onto a landing pad. It is
then immediately scooped up with a thin wooden bat and transferred to a metal
receptacle to determine which top can spin the longest.
Local experts are known to be able to spin their gasings for
hours, delighting audience with their skill and poise. They will demonstrate
some techniques and guide visitors on how to play the game.
