A
MAGNIFICENT RETREAT IN THE SUN
Tioman
Island lies about 36 nautical miles off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia.
The Island spans over 38 kilometres long and 19 kilometres wide. Once reputed
to be among the most beautiful tropical islands, Tioman made its mark when
Hollywood portrayed it in the 1958 box office movie, “South Pacific”.
Still
pristine despite the relentless incursion of modern tourism. Tioman Island is a
haven for spectacular marine life, boasting a seemingly endless coastline of
shimmering sand and pristine waters along its coastline. Set against the
striking backdrop of the towering twin peaks of Gunung Nenek Semukut, it is
truly one of the most beautiful and idyllic tropical islands in the world.
The cluster
of Islands was gazette as a Marine Park in 1995 to protect its precious marine
resources. Only activities that does not harm or destroy marine life such as
snorkeling, scuba diving, swimming and underwater photography are permitted.
Fishing is
not allowed within a 2 nautical miles from the beach. Coral and shellfish
gathering as well as other damaging activities are strictly forbidden.
UNDERWATER
PARADISE
With its
rich marine heritage, it is natural for Tioman Island to be the chosen site for
the biggest marine park in Malaysia – a veritable playground for divers and
snorkelers. You don’t have to go far for casual or light diving, but for the
more serious divers, it is recommended that they head to Pulau Tulai to explore
its diversity of beautiful coral and other undersea attractions.

VILLAGES
Located on
the northwest corner of the island, Salang Village is the favourite destination
for diving and snorkeling enthusiasts. Devoid of 5 star resort establishments,

accommodation amidst the muted bustle of Malay fishing settlement. It is
situated close to Monkey Bay (a mere 45 minutes trek) and Tulai Island, both
popular for their pristine beaches and vibrant undersea gardens. Other villages
to visit include Kg tekek, Kg Juara, Kg Air Batang, Kg Genting, Kg Paya, Kg
Lanting and Kg Nipah.
Juara beach
is the only bay which faces the open South China Sea. The seclusion makes Juara
ideal for honeymooners or for those seeking a perfect hideway.
For those
who love nature and adventure, Juara is the point of exit (or entry) for the
cross island tekek- Juara tail. It is also the start off point to climb the
Mount Kajang where the 2 rivers, the Mentawak and Barokl flow.
