MALAYSIA - HOMESTAY

THE MALAYSIAN HOMESTAY EXPERIENCE

Come and experience traditional hospitality while you live in rural Malaysian abodes.

In the Malaysian Homestay, you will get to experience life in a kampong, or traditional village. With an open mind, you will be exposed to a fascinating culture rarely glimpsed in urban neighbourhoods.

You will establish a bond with your friendly foster family and get acquainted with the village elders. Friendly children and accommodating neighbours will also help show you the rural ways of life. And throughout your stay, they will get to know you and your culture too. When you return home, you will bring back a memorable cultural experience and the thought that you will always have a family to welcome you whenever you return to Malaysia.

The kampungs involved in the homestay programme are committed to ensure that visitors experience village style living first hand. The food you eat and the activities you engage in are all authentically Malaysian.Daily activities that take place at these kampungs include preparing food using traditional methods, going to the orchard to harvest fruits or feeding livestock in the farm.

Spend time with the children after they return from school and indulge in games that are still popular in kampungs, like kite flying , top spinning and congkak. Alternatively, you can explore the natural surroundings

In the evenings. You will witness cultural dances, music performances or even mock wedding, all of which you will be encouraged to participate in.Here, you will experience traditional Malaysian charm that has been preserved throughout the ages and is still very much alive.

Live with them. Eat with them.Be part of their family. Homestay in Malaysia –a memorable experience of traditional hospitality.

SELAMAT DATANG……EACH VISITOR WILL BE GREETED WITH THESE WELCOMING WORDS IN OUR NATIONAL LANGUAGE – BAHASA MELAYU

A refreshing drink is not only welcome you get upon your arrival. A penghulu (village headman) will greet you in his warm and customary style before introducing you to your foster family. Elders are usually introduced first, followed by other family members.

While enjoying your drink, the head of the household will inquire into your needs and at the same time brief you on what you can expect and the various activities that have been lined up for yourstay in his  kampong. After being shown to your room, you will be taken on a short tour of the house.

Despite a more modern lifestyle, rural traditions and etiquette remain preserved. You will be pleasantly surprised by the hospitality and politeness of the kampong folk and their respect for their elders.

As the day comes to an end, you can look forward to a peaceful night’s sleep, in an anticipation of the exciting activities that await you the next day.

When you live in a traditional Malay home, you will immerse yourself in a vibrant ethnic culture.
The type of house that you will live in during your homestay is most likely the traditional Malay house, which is made of timber and raised on stilts. It is basically a post and lintel structure with wooden or bamboo walls and a thatched roof. Many windows line the walls and provide good ventilation.

Rooms are also adequately furnished and well ventilated. You will rest peacefully day or night, serenaded by the chirping of birds and crickets.
