INDIA TAMIL NADU CHENNAI- FESTIVAL

1. PONGAL ( JANUARY)
Pongal is the harvesting festival that marks the end of monsoon season. One of the most important occasions of TAMIL NADU , the rural based festival begins sometimes in mid January.

2. ARUBATHUMOOVAR FESTIVAL ( MARCH - APRIL)
The day witnesses processions which crowd up the lanes of Mylapore. the 63 bronze idols of Kapaleeswarar and Nayanmars Temple are decorated and driven on carriers with huge ceremonial pomp for the devotees to pay obeisance.

3. PILLAIYAR CHATHURTHI/ VINAYAGAR CHATHURTHI ( AUGUST -SEPTEMBER0
Ganesh Chathurthu , popularly known as Pillaiyar Chathurth is celebrated with a lot of zest. The state of government has taken an initiative towards making it eco friendly by marking 5 spots in Chennai for idol immersion, fixing the height of the idol to be made and instructing about preparation of the idol with eco friendly materials.

4. KARTHIGAI DEEPAM ( NOVEMBER)
Celebrated after Diwali , Karthigai deepam falls on the full moon day of November /December . The day is marked by decorating houses with kolams or murals, putting lamps or deepam on balconies , windows and doors.

5. CHENNAI BOOK FAIR ( DECEMBER - JANUARY)
A much awaited fair to book lovers, the 10 day yearly exhibition is structured by Booksellers and Publishers Association of South India ( BAPASI) . Books found here cater to people of every age group and educational standard.

6. CHENNAI MUSIC AND DANCE FESTIVAL ( DECEMBER -JANUARY)
The music and dance festival brings together different aspects of the rich heritage Chennai boasts of. with more than 2000 participants, the Bharathanatyam dancers and Carnatic music exponents shower the entire area with their colours and sounds.
