Located outside Madikeri town, Mercara Downs Golf Course is bleesed with a serene landscape and a colonial history, Said to have been built sometime during the 1800s, it is difficult to ascertain the exact year as the club's original documents have been lost. This 80 acre golf course is situated at an altitude of 1097m and this combined with 3 water bodies , 53 bunkers and 5 hazards, makes it a challenging course for first timers. because of its rolling greens, the sweet smelling coffee plantations in the background , the hillocks and the fresh nippy breeze , this golf course reminded British officers of their native countryside in Britain and was a much frequented haunt.
Nestled in the hills , the club house here is fairly new , and has been strategically built to protect against the chilly mountain breeze.
