where today stands the Cine - Theatre Paraiso, in 1800 was erected the first space dedicated to entertainment in the city of Tomar . In 1876, the place was renovated and became known as Theatre Nabantino. It was there that the inhabitants of Tomar first saw a motion -picture in 1901.
In the 1920's began the renovation of the Nabantino Theatre. The project involved the demolition of the old theatre and the construction of the futureTheatre Paraiso. The works started in 1920 under the supervision of the architect Deolindo Vieira who had designed an " Italian theatre" for that purpose. The offical inauguration would take place on March 24 , 1924.
In the 40's, the theatre was renovated once more, this time by the architect Ernesto Korrodi. he undertook a total transformation of the interiors and added a ballroom and bar. the exterior facades designed by Deolindo Vieira were maintained.
In 1991, almost half a century later, the Cine- Theatre closed definitely to the public .
In 1997, it was acquired by the Municipality of Tomar.The current Cine -Theatre Paraiso opened again to the public in 2002.
