1. GOVERNMENT MUSEUM
Lovers of antiquity , prepare to get overwhelmed, for the Government Museum within the Rani Mangammal Mahal has an excellent collection of rare Indian artefacts . The displays of the museum include ancient fossils, prehistoric Megalithic, Paleolithic and Neolithic tool, earthen and metal moulds, palm leaf inscriptions to sculptures of Mahavia, Gautama Buddha, Lord Vishnu, Lord Nataraj and Goddess Durga. Tamil art, bronze and stone statues are some of the rare collections of the museum. There is also a separate section on tribal items including a model of the Pachamalai hills. For the zoologist and naturalist, there is a quite a collection of rare species of insects , birds and mammals to explore.
2. RAILWAY HERITAGE CENTRE
The Railway Heritage Centre is a railway museum cum heritage centre for rail exhibits. The museum which is part of erstwhile South Indian Railway's 150th year celebrations has both indoor and outdoor exhibits. Some of the indoor exhibits includes old documents and digital archives ( rare photographs , maps, gazettes , railway manualsand books used during the British Raj) and epoch artefacts( old lamps used at station made up of " China glass" , clocks , bells, staff badges ,etc)
The outdoor exhibits include a couple a vintage locomotive engines and a functional toy train.
3. BUTTERFLY PARK
Discover a whole new world far away from the chaos of city life, at the Tropical Butterfly Conservatory, located in the Upper Anaicut reserve Forests in Srisangam with an extent of 15 acres/ The gentle breeze carrying the smell of grass and mud, the myriad of flowers and plants and the eye catching butterflies dancing here and there provides a cosy and restful environment.
This park has an outer conservatory area to provide and facilitate an environment for butterflies to breed , procreate and complete its lifecycle on a perpetual basis under near natural conditions. Indoor conservatory show cases non scheduled butterflies under controlled conditions . This park has a Nakshatravanam( Zodiac Sign Park)
4. ANNA SCIENCE CENTRE -PLANETARIUM
Science lovers feed your passion by visiting the Anna Science Center. The planetarium is located near the airport. It has around 11 galleries and each of it displays the characteristic of different aura of nature, earth ,science and technology. The enviromental gallery exhibits the flora of the ecosystem and its biodiversity. Apart from the museum and gallery there is Shark Island where 3D technology has been installed to give real pictures and clips. To nurture the creativity and imagination of children, there is a separate block where they would be given a delightful visual about basic astronomy, space missions , deep seas, science movies and wild jungles . In te amphitheater of planetarium one can witness vivid science shows in both English and Tamil.
