VAN THUY TU

Van Thuy Tu is one of the most universal and ancient temples of Binh Thuan Province. Located on Ngu Ong Street , Duc Thang Ward, Phan Thiet City. The temple was built in 1762, including a worship place of Southern Sea God in the main block. The temple is preserving 24 certificates of knighting of Nguyen Kings, various cultural heritages in Chinese - or Chinese characters in Vietnamese relating to fishing shown in the spiritual content in worship places, worship symbols, horizontal lacquered boards, parallel sentences , or of texts on the great bell. In front of the Temple , there is a large area used to bury Ong( meaning Sir, a respectful way of calling a giant Whale) called as Ngoc Lan Thanh Dia( Holy Land  of Gem Unicorn). For over 200 years , the Temple has had more than 200 sets of Ong's skeletons, with dozens of extremely huge ones including the largest in Southeast Asia with 22 meters long, 110 years old while being alive , the Whale weighs about 64 tons. The temple has been classed as national historical relic since 1996.

In addition to saving many valuable ancient relics relating to fishing, Van Thuy Tu is also home to the Praying for Fish Festival at early seasons participated by local fishermen as well as other neighbouring provinces.
