Lake Kenyir's many islands of varying sizes and terrain beckon the intrepid thrill seeker where countless adventures and mysteries await . Kenyir Island Hopping is a new Kenyir tourist attraction.
It is a combination of different kinds of island themes based on natural habitat, flora & fauna and the Kenyir ecosystem.
There are currently 4 island hopping destination that include the Butterfly Park, Bird Park , Tropical garden and Orchid garden. Whilst future developments are underway to several Eco Parks, Heliconia Garden , Cactus Garden , Grape Garden , Rambutan Garden and Botanical Garden.
FISHING
Lake Kenyir is a favourite getaway for ardent anglers. Breeding grounds if numerous game fish like Kelisa ( Scleropages Formosos), Kelah ( Tor Tambroides) , Toman ( Channa Micropeltes) , Baung ( Mystus Nemurus) , Sebarau ( Hampala Macrolepidota) and Lampam ( Puntius Schwanenfeldis) abound in the many rivers and tributaries of the great lake.
Anglers are encouraged to fish at dedicated spots such as Cacing, Leban, Petuang , Saok and Terengganu River. Private boat operators and most chalets or resorts can organise fishing trips to these remarkable spots with provision of the compulsory fishing permit from the Wildlife Department.
The lake has a water catchment area of 38000 hectares with over 300 species of freshwater fish. The dead tress recessed under water serve as a breeding ground for the fish as algae sprout on the trees, while the branches serve as the main form of sustenance. The fish thrive near estuaries where nutrients are found in abundance. Large scale fish breeding is also done in cages at some areas of the lake with estimates of 60 tonnes of fish harvested yearly.
