The ruins of the Tower of Centum Cellas, a national monument since 1927, are located in Colmeal Da Torre. The Grandeur and monumentality of the building , with about 12 metres of Tower around which are organised other structures, have given rise ti a number of interpretations about their functionality over the years by various researches ; temple , prison , praetorium of a Roman Camp , mansio or mutatio ( hostels for travellers rest )roman villa.
The excavations performed by the IPPAR , between 1993 and 1998, showed that the tower would be the core of that which would be Lucius Caecilius villa, a wealthy roman Citizen, tin dealer , who in the middle of the 1st century a.d. sent to build his residence in this area, under the direction of an architect , which , as it seems to indicate would had a profound knowledge of the constructive techniques dictated by Vitruvius.
