PHILIPPINES DAVAO- 4 ICONS

1.PHILIPPINES EAGLE
Pithecophaga jeffery is also known as the monkey eating eagle or great Philippine eagle. It has brown and white coloured plumage and a shaggy crest. It is one of the largest 3 eagles in the world. Davao City, which shares territorial jurisdiction with North Cotabato over Mt Apo, is now the last remaining habitat for this critically endangered vertebrate species.

2. WALING -WALING
Dubbed as the " Queen of Philippine Orchids", the Waling- waling or Vanda Sauderiana is the rarest, most beautiful and most expensive among the thousands of orchid species in the country. Endemic only to the Philippines , this lovely flower grows on the trunks of tall tropical trees in the forest of Davao, Sultan Kudarat and other parts of Mindanao.

3. DURIAN
Considered to be the " King of Fruits", Durian which was derived from the Malay- Indonesian languages word for duri or " spike", a reference to the numerous spikes of the fruit. The Durian is distinctive for its strong odor and formidable thorn -covered husk. Regardless of how the flesh is consumed - be it fresh or to flavor a wide variety of savory and sweet edibles like pie, candies or coffee.

4. MOUNT APO
The country's highest peak is a dormant volcano located between Davao City, Davao del Sur province and North Cotabato province. With an elevation of 3144 meters above sea level, Mt Apo has attracted local and foreign mountaineers and trekkers . The grandeur of 7 peaks in Mt Apo overlooks Davao City to the northeast , Digos City to the southeast and Kidapawan City to the west .
