1. Maolin National Scenic Area
The Maolin National Scenic Area is located at the western side of the Central Mountain Range's southern end. The area encompasses 6 districts and townships of Kaohsiung and Pingtung : Taoyuan , Liouguei and Maolin District and Sandimen, Wutai and Majia townships. This area offers many different tourist attractions including butterfly watching , walking in the forest to enjoy phytoncide,relaxing in hot springs , paragliding and others. These activities have made Maolin one of the most popular eco tourism spots in southern Taiwan.
2. Duona attractions
Duona is a village surrounded by mountains and populated by the Rukai Aboriginal Tribe , one of the oldest in Taiwan. Visitors to Duona can discover the Rukai's rich culture and local knowledge from houses constructed from stone slabs and hundred pacer snake totems.
3. Stone Slab Houses
Stone Slab Houses are distinctive as the traditional Rukai architecture style. The Rukai people use black slate and shale to build their house. Although the houses are not made for steel or cement, they not only keep out of the wind and rain but can also withstand earthquakes. This functional architecture shows the Rukai people's knowledge of building and owning a stone slab house is the highest honor a Rukai person can attain.
