Some tourists only see Metro Manila as a gateway to the rest of the country. But there's so much about it that's worth discovering.
Metro manila is almost as large as Singapore. As many people live here as in New Zealand , Ireland and Jamaica combined. We have the busiest streets , the craziest nightlife and many of the country's most important landmarks. We are home to malls and eco- parks.
1. SPAS
Relaxing in the Philippines is really more fun. You can get a water massage. A moringa facemask treatment. A purple yam, coconut jelly and red been body scrub. There are unique spa treatments all over the metro. But if you have to get just one, we recommend the traditional Filipino hilot.
2. WEEKENDS MARKETS
Metro Manila's version of the farmer's market is a must do . Head to Salcedo Park on a Saturday to pick up fresh produce and ready to eat meals from over a hundred vendors. On Sundays, stalls hawk lunch, dessert, handmade goods and upcycled products at Legasi Park.
3. VOLUNTOURISM
Gawad Kalinga and Habitat for Humanity are reliable non profit organization. They have the materials and templates needed to build housing structures, but rely on individuals for manpower. Their efforts take them all over the country, so check their websites for build dates.
4. GOLF COURSES
Tee off in the heart of the country's capital.Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club and Capitol Hills Golf and Country Club all let players practice their backswing without leaving the metro. Make sure to stay hydrated under the Manila sun! If the day's too hot, head over to Club Intramuros - the only 19 hole course in the metro that's open at night. Cap your day or night with a meal and drinks at the clubhouse. The services and offerings are top notch.
5. JEEPNEYS
The color, trimmings and pop culture icons that adorn this public vehicle make it modern art. The jeepney traces its roots to US military jeeps left behind after World War II that were adapted by the enterprising individuals. Ride one around Manila. Just be warned -seating is always knee to knee.
6. MUSEUMS
For a glimpse of Philipine history, view the work of Filipino painters such as Felix Hidalgo and Juan Luna at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila. Visit the Ayala Musuem to see its collection of pre-historic gold. The museum cafe is also a must try.
7. FOOD
Filipino cuisine embraces all of the country's heritage. Gambas from the Spanish colonial period.
Siomai from centuries of Chinese trade. Kare-kare from Southeast Asian neighbors.
Restaurants are enthusiastic about fusion as well, adding modern influences to Filipino food.
8.KARAOKE
Every single Filipino loves to sing. You will find Karaoke machines in the smallest towns and the most posh venues. There might even be current hits! Dont't be intimidated by the machine's )-100 scoring system. The secret to getting a high score is simply belting to your heart's delight.
9. ENTERTAINMENT CITY
Manila might be overflowing with historical sites, but they are not the only places worth your visit. After a day of taking everything in, take a taxi over to Entertainment City. This leisure development by Manila Bay has almost everything you could need for a fun night out.
