TAIWAN KAOHSIUNG- CISHAN DISTRICT

Cishan's original name meant " Sweet Potato Cottage" , a result of being located where businessmen built cottages from which to buy the local sweet potato crops . Later the village was named Cishan, meaning " flag mountain ", in reference to the mountain range lying to the east. Cishan is also famous for banana production and visitors can find many banana-shaped decorative art works around town. 

1.Cishan Living Cultural Park
Cishan Living Cultural Park  was originally Gushan Elementary School, which was designated as a historic heritage building together with Cishan Elementary School, just at the opposite side of the street. The quaint school buildings are used to hold various cultural and art activities so that visitors can enjoy art and culture in a historic environment . In addition,bicycles are provided for rent and classrooms are offered for accommodation at a preferential price.

2. Cishan Confucius Temple
Located in Cishan's Jhongshan Park, Cishan's Confucius Temple is the biggest in Southeast Asia. The temple was built on a hill that gives visitors an eagle's view of the Cishan streets.

The Temple's vast area allows a special version of the Yiwu  ( a traditional dance ) to be performed in celebration of Confusious'birthday. Sixty for dancer in an 8 by 8 configuration perform the Emperor's 8 Yiwu, which in comparison to the regular 36 person 6 Yiwu, makes for a much more grandiose yet solemn scene on the special day.

3. Cishan Old street 
Architecture in the Cishan Old Street area includes diverse cultural influences , including Baroque style houses, which were popular during the Japanese Colonial Period,traditional Han's sanheyuan , a style consisting of a central building with two attached wings on either side and houses with stone corridors and arches. These varied architectural styles make for a very distinctive neighborhood atmosphere.

4. Old Cishan Railway Station
The Cishan Old Railway Station  built in 1911, maybe the cutest station in Taiwan. The construction integrates the classical Victorian style, which features the elegant outside appearance and Gothic style, which features a retro- styleac octagonal steeple, so it looks very cute and eye catching.

5. St Jospeh's Catholic Church
Cishan's St Joseph's Catholic Church features a Gothic construction style. Both sides of the main building are majestic bastion towers, giving the church an atmosphere of magnificence, elegance and solemnity.
The interior is simple and neat and it seems an even more sacred place when the sun shines through windows.

6. Cishan Ki A -Pen Sianki A Pen Sian
Founded in Cishan and famous across Taiwan , Ki-A Pen Sian ice shop is not only a good friend of Cishan residents but also exists as a part of pleasant vhildhood memories for many Taiwanese people. Ki-A-Pen Sian won its reputation with its various distinctive ice products.
