CUKLI RUNGKANG
Another competitive handicraft of
Lombok that has been widely known in many big cities and rich people in
Indonesia is cukli. This art is exploiting pearl shells and other similar
materials to decorate parts of furniture ( such as chair, table, cupboard, room
partition and others). Now , the materials have become rare in Lombok. By
buying the pearl shells from Maluku, this business can solve the scarcity.
The center for cukli is located in
Rungkang Jangkuk, Cakranegara-Mataram. Beside furniture, cukli is also applied
to various products of woodcraft, such as animal statue, jug, flower, vase ,
mask and other shapes of small statues. To have these kinds of products, you
have to pay between 50000 to hundreds thousands rupiah.
On the other hand,
furniture decorated with cukli is offered between 5,000,000 to 10 thousands
rupiah, even hundreds. In the location, many shops offer various products used
as house chores equipments or room decoration. Beside Rungkang Jangkung, this is also developing in Sesela Village, Gunung
Sari – Lombok Barat.
