REGIONAL CUISINE
The seafood in Hua Hin is well known for
its freshness. Must try dishes are oyster omelets and preserved clams with
papaya salad. At Pran Buri Market, tender pork and the thick spiced stock of
Emperor’s rice noodle are 2 most popular dishes. At Hua Hin Night Market,
however recommended food, dessert and beverage are pork porridge, aromatic
coffee, fried Chinese doughnut and soft buns (Salapao). It is recommended that
your meal be completed with Roti, a dessert that even movie stars have to queue
up for.
The stall is located in the middle of Hua Hin Night Market. What’s so
special about this dessert lies in special mixture of the dough and a wide
variety of fillings: pineapple pandan ustard, coffee, malt, honey, strawberries,
eggs, raisins and marmalade.
Phetchaburi’s savory dishes are:
“ Khanom Chin Thot Man: rice noodles served
with fried fish cakes , topped with chili or sweet sauce.
“ Ngop Ping “ ground fish mixed with chili
paste , wrapped and grilled in banana leaves.
Rice Noodle with Beef and Chili Sauce rice
noodles with peppered meatballs served with hot and spicy chili sauce.
“ Kaeng Hua Tan” traditional local cuisine
made of meat and young Palmyra palm mixed with chili paste.
“ Khao Chae Meang Phet” well known local
dish that has already become one of Thailand’s must refreshing summer dishes.
Khao Chae is chilled boiled rice in jasmine scented iced water served with an
array of delicate side dishes that include deep fried shrimp past balls and
deep fried stuffed bell peppers. The dish is available from restaurants located
around the market or along the Phetchaburi River bank near the railway station.
Phetchaburi is also renowned for its
variety of desserts and fruit. After lunch and dinner, “ Khanom Mo Kaeng” (
baked Thai style custard) , “ Chao Tan Chueam” ( palm seed in thick syrup), “
Ta Not Thot “, “Khanom Tan”, “Milk Jelly”, “ Fresh Palm Juice “ and crispy
refreshing rose apples are on the must try list.
