INDONESIA SOUTH SUMATRA

Areas of South Sumatra is approximately about 87.017 square kilometres  which is located south of the equator on 1 degree Celsius to 4 degree Celsius south latitude and 102 degree Celsius to 108 degree Celsius east longitude and is the western Indonesia. South Sumatra borders Jambi in the north, Lampung in the South and Bengkulu in the east.

South Sumatera is also called Bumi Sriwijaya because there was situated the center of Sriwijaya Kingdom in 7-12 century AD .The kingdom was the largest and strongest maritime kingdom in Indonesia, which has the effect to the Formosa, China and Madagascar.

Besides, it is named BatangHari Sembilan for there are located 9 major rivers; Musi River , Ogan River, Komering River, Lematang River , Lakitan River, Kelingi , Rawas River , Batanghari Leko River and Lalan River with their forks.

South Sumatera consists of 4 cities and 13 (thirteen) regencies.They are :Palembang City, Prabumulih City, Lubuklinggau City, Ogan llir, Banyuasin , Musi Banyuasin (MUBA) , Musi Rawas (MURA), Organ Komering llir (OKI), Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU), Northern Ogan Komering Ulu, Southern Organ Komering Ulu, Muara Enim, Empat Lawang, Lahat Pali and Northen Musi Rawas Regency.

The capital of South Sumatera is Palembang. While, the gateis Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin III International Airport situated 12 km from the city center. It provides domestic and international flight as well. The visitors can go by Silk Air to take international flights to Singapore and Air Asia to Malaysia.

PALEMBANG

Palembang is South Sumatera’s capital. It is the center of tourism activities offering some interesting places,such as the Ampera Bridge, the Traditional House of Limas,the Museum of Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II, the Museum of Bala Putera Dewa, the Great Mosque the Siguntang Hill , the Kemaro Island, the Archaeological Park of Sriwijaya Kingdon, the Memorial Park Ki GedelngSuro, the Jakabaring Sport Center and the Tengkurep Crater, graveyard of Palemban Darussalam Sultanate’s Kings.

ORGAN ILIR

Organ ilir regency has Inderalaya as its capital.Situated 32 kilometres from Palembang, it covers an area 2.666km and can be reached either by bus or taxi. There is located the biggest University in South Sumatera , Sriwijaya University

ORGAN KOMERING ILIR

OKI’S capital is Kayu Agung covering 21.464 square kilometres areas. It is situated 66 km from Palembang while visitors can reach it by bus or private transportation. There are several destinations here such as Gelam Bay, Oil Palm plantations and other plantations of various local fruits; durians, dukus and rambutans.There is also situated the only one sugar mill ever built in South Sumtera , Cinta Manis.

SOUTHERN ORGAN KOMERING

Southern Organ Komering Ulu(OKU Selatan)  with Muara Duathe Capital, has an area 5.849 square kilometres. It is 125 km from Baturaja. The most famous tourism destination here is Ranau Lake, covering an area of 128 square kilometres. It is beautified by Mount Seminung and is surrounded by some hills and valley. The visitors can drive from Palembang or Bandar Lampung to get there. There is also natural attaraction Subik Tuha Waterfall, situated 500 meters from Ranau Lake.

MUARA ENIM

Situated 183 km from Palembang, the regency has got Muara Enimthe capital. The city is the transit area of Lintas Sumatera. The city is the transit area of Lintas Sumatera. The attractive tourism destination here is Curup Tenang Waterfall located near the village of Tanjung Bedegung, Tanjung Agung District, which is about 56km in southern Muara Enim.

MUSI BANYUASIN

Musi Banyuasin is a regency of South Sumatera Province and its capital is Sekayu. It can be reached by either private or public transportations. It is the way to get Jambi, 70km far. There are2 road forks in Betung City; you can get Sekayu from the left and Jambi from the right. Meanwhile, there is existed a cloistered Kubu Tribe far in the forest between Musi Banyuasin Regency and Jambi Province. Besides, the visitors can visit Danau Ulak Liia located in Kelurahan Soak Baru Kecamatan Sekayu and it can be reached in 20 minutes from Sekayu.

BANYUASIN

Sembilang National Park covers an area 87000 hectares of mangrove forest. The park is considered to be the best destination belongs to Banyuasin regency with Pangkalan Balai the capital. There are various floras and fauna inhabited the par, besides there are also Siberia migratory birds stop over the forest. You can reach the park by boating anyway.

LAHAT

The regency and its capital having the same name, Lahat is an area 2.351,93 square kilometres. It is located about 225km from west Palembang and can be reached by private transportation or train. It is a southern cross towards Padang, Medan and Banda Aceh.Its tourism destination are the Mount Serelo and the Lematang River.It is also the location of the stones megaliths’ discovery.

PAGARALAM

Pagar Alam is 295km far from Palembang that can be taken during 6 hours from. The attractive tourism destinations in the city are the Mount Dempo, the Tikungan Endikat, the Niagara of Lematang Indah, the Curup Embun and the CurupMangkuk.the Mount Dempo is the flagship destination that has an attraction for hikers to enjoy the natural scenery.

LUBUKLINGGAU

One of the best things you can find in Lubuk Linggau is Bukit Sulap situated 2 kilometers from the capital, Lubuk Linggau. It is a seven hundred meters hill above sea level and is inhabited by beautiful flowers. The weather is cool in Lubuk Linggau and it is cooler in the hill anyway. The hill becomes the symbol of the city since it is able to be viewed from anywhere in the city. It needs one and a half hour to reach the hilltop on foot passing a rocky land.

EASTERN OGAN KOMERING

Eastern Ogan Komering Ulu’s capital is Martapura.The regency covers an area of 11.661 square kilometres.It has the widest rice field and the largest rice producer in South Sumatera, Belitang Village. There is also the largest irrigation system Upper Komering ( Bendung Perjaya) used for irrigation of rice fields.

OGAN KOMERING ULU

Baturaja, the capital of Ogan Komering Ulu, covers an area of 1.661 square kilometres. To reach Baturaja , you  can go through 3 routes, they are Palembang- Indralaya –Prabumulih- Baturaja, taking about 3.5 hours , Palembang –Indralya-Prabumulih-Tanjung Enim – Baturaja taking about 6 hours, or using train from Palembang to Baturaja. The famous tourism destination here is Goa Putri.

PRABUMULIH

Prabumulih is well known for the pineapples and covers   area of 439.249 square kilometres. It is located on the road along the Trans Sumatera and takes about 1.5 hours from Palembang. In additional, it is also known as the city of oil because that area contains petroleum or natural gas

EMPAT LAWANG

Tebing Tinggi, the capital of Empat Lawang Regency, is well known for delicious durians and you are able to taste high quality coffee in Desa Muara Pinang. Besides, the regency enriches secret beautiful stunning natures. The beauty is not explored yet though, such as gorgeous Air terjun Bidadari which located in Desa Tanjung Alam.

MUSI RAWAS

Muara Beliti is the capital of Musi Rawas Regency. It can be reached either by cars or planes. The regency is one of potential regencies in South Sumatera Province especially its tourism destinations. Some of the destinations are Danau Aur, a beautiful lake, situated in Kecamatan Sumber Harta and is about 40 minutes from the capital of Musi Rawas the gorgeous Bukit Cogong and Air Terjun Curug Tnggi.
