SUNDAY WALKING STREET
Sunday walking starts around 2pm and lasts until 10 pm with
local craft persons operating stalls along Rajdumnern Road on the inner east
side of the moat near Tapae Gate.The street is blocked off from traffic so
there is plenty of room to walk. Unlike the sellers on Chang Khlan Road, who peddle many fake
designers goods, excellent handmade items are displayed and sold. At the 5
temples on this road you can enjoy real Northern Thai food and snacks.
SATURDAY WALKING STREET
Saturday Market on Wualai Road (the street that shoots off
at an angle just outside the Chiang Mai gate on the south side of the old city)
officially starts 5pm , although the road will be closed to cars from about
2pm onwards; it’s pretty much over by
11pm. It’s the old silver working district and some shops stay open late on
this day.Like the better known Sunday Market, there’s lot of food and local
crafts.
CHIANGMAI NIGHT BAZAAR
It is located in the heart of the city, on Chan Klan Road,
between the Pae and Sri Donchai roads. It is famous for handicrafts and
portrait paintings. There are the jewelry, toys, clothing and high tech items.
It is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Chiangmai.The market is owned
by group of local people now although originally belonged to a Chinese
merchant.
BIG C
A large Thai owned superstore that stocks and caters largely
for Thai market, is located just off the Superhighway between the first floor
with a Thai style food court while on the ground floor is a range of smaller
shops. It stocks ranges of electrical items,clothing ,household goods, fresh
produce at good prices.
CENTRAL KAD SUAN KAEW
This is the largest shopping mall in northern Thailand, with
a variety of stores , restaurants , a theater and a cinema spread over several
loors. Anchored by the Central department store,it also houses the Tops
Supermarket in the basement and shops selling records, books , groceries ,
clothes , toys and computer games. The
good selection of eateries here includes such familiar names as Pizza hut and
Swensens.
CENTRAL AIRPORT PLAZA CHIANGMAI
A centrally air-conditioned mall housing to brand name shops
has variety of articles including mouthwatering delicacies , is popular
shopping areas in the city. It is located right at the edge of Maidol and
Chiangmai –Hod Road. It offers the best shopping experience in Chiangmai and is
popular among the locals as well as the tourists. Business hours are 11am to
10pm on weekdays and from 9.30am to 10pm on weekends.
