HOME OF KOREA’S TOPOKKI
Toppokki (spicy rice cake) is made by stir-frying or boiling seasoned garaetteok (cylinder rice cake). It used to be a court food served on the king’s table. However, after the Korean War when food was scarce it began to be sold on street and is now one of the most favourite snacks amongst Koreans. The streets of the Sindang dong area of Seoul were where the sweet and spicy toppokki were first seen. To this day, Sindang-dong has become the arrest cluster of toppokki eateries in Korea.
A SWEET AND SPICY TAE THAT EVEN FOREIGNERS ENJOY
Sindang-dong Toppoki is most well known for “ instant topokki”,which is made using a special red sauce made of chunjang (black soybean paste)and gochujang (Korean chili paste). Sindang-dong Topokki is cooked on the spot with various vegetables, fish cake, noodles and dumplings.
