CHIANGMAI
Chiangmai is a city built on the roots of a traditional
heritage that dig deep into the soil of time.It’s a city with a beautiful
cultural personality of its own. In addition; it’s been blessed with much
majestic beauty in nature. The people themselves are an unforgettable part of
Chiang Mai.
DOI SUTHEP & DO PUI NATIONAL PARK ( 16 KM , NORTHWEST OF
CHIANG MAI)
Covering an area of 262 square kilometres, this luxuriant
park is home to more than 300 bird species and nearly 2000 species of ferns and
flowering plants. Some hiking trails in the park pass Hmong villages while
others lead to a few small waterfalls where local people come for picnicking on
weekends. Accommodations are available near the park headquarter. Here are
interesting spots in the national park.
Located just 15 kms away from the city of Chiang a, Doi
Suthep is not only the location of the Wat Phra That Doi Suthep but also the
Royal’s winter residence, Phu Ping Palace. This Mountain is full of natural
vegetation and wildlife especially birds.
PHUPING PALACE
This palace was built in 1962 and the compound is normally
open to public when the King and /or the Queen are not there.It is located on
the mountain, about 14-15kms from Chiangmai city.Visitors can take a trip to
Doi Suthep, where there is a beautiful temple on the top of the mountain with a
very long staircases and then visit Phuping Palace and Doi Pui, Phuping Palace is a beautiful place full of flowers,
a lot of trees and places to walk.
DOI INTHANON NATIONAL PARK
Encompasses the highest mountain in Thailand. Doi Inthanon,
as well as several lesser summits. The doi (mountain) is largely a granite
batholith intruding southerly extension of the Shan Hills range. It divides Nam
Mae Ping River to the east and Nam Mae Chaem River to the west. Lower
elevations in the easterly part are contained with several caves.
CHIANG MAI NIGHT SAFARI
Modeled after a similar attraction in Singapore, this
expansive park is part of the Thai government’s huge multi million baht place
to increase Chiang Mai’s attraction to tourists. The concept of the park is to
provide visitors with a thrilling experience similar to being out in the
wilderness at night.
MAE KOK RIVER
A 130 km long river , originating from Shah State in Burma
and flows through Thaton ,a small picturesque town in north of Chiangmai
Province. With long tail boat tours along the river, you can see/visit hill
tribe villages and at ruammit, a Karen village, you can see the elephants at
work and can also take a ride.
SANKAMPAENG HOT SPRINGS
An ideal spot for those craving for healthiness. The spring
emitting water of high sulphuric content, is said to cure ailments and
rejuvenate the body.The water with more than 100 centigrade of heat is
researched into making the springs as a potential energy source. A trip to the
springs is often added with trip to Sankampaeng Handicraft and Borsang Umbrella
and Thai Handicraft Village.
CHIANG MAI ZOO
Established in 1974 by the Zoological Park Organiaton, is
situated in an area of 531 rai of forest on the foothill of Doi Suthep.The Zoo
is amid hilly terrain homing to various species of wild plants and flowers
adorning the landscape of valleys, streams and waterfalls. It is only zoo in
Northern Thailand where visitor can experience various species of animals in
their natural habitat.
KHANTOLE DINNERS
Every night there are Khantoke Dinner Shows which is popular
with Thai and overseas visitor alike. The meal is served on a wooden pedestral
tray call” Khantoke” , and the dishes are all authentic northern Thai
delicacies such as Gaeng Hang Lay, a gingery pork curry; the chili –tomato
–minced pork dip called Naam Prik Ong and the crunchy pieces of pork scratching
or Kaeb Moo, for dipping into the rich gravy.
